This morning we headed out to Smiths Falls to try to catch two VIAs around 10:30-11:00am. Unfortunately, when we got there I found that I had misread the schedule and that we missed it. Just about before we were to give up, the scanner indicated something was close then we heard the whistle as it entered the yard.
It was a small local service which picked up some cars from near the quebec border. When it arrived in the station, they unhooked FRED then began some shunting operations.
While we were watching them, one of the office employees came by and chatted with us. He said that the next train through is currently east of Toronto and would be in around 2ish.
A while later, a hotbox detector gave us a heads up that VIA 45 would be arriving soon from Ottawa on its way to Brockville. Sure enough, VIA rumbled by a few minutes later. I was a bit surprised at how slow it took the curve, but I guess that it was just obeying the yard speed limit.

My hiatus from blogging wasn’t because I’ve been in some place warm for the winter, but more that I’ve been spending more time taking pictures of planes and lego minifigs than trains recently. Hopefully with the improved weather I will get out more see more trains.
